Inspired by the Fall 2011 Runway decided to try a longer skirt look. The black high waisted mid-calf circle skirt I rescued from my mom’s throw-away pile, would be my canvas. Add hoop earrings a chain belt, arm-full of bracelets and voila! My brand new outfit is complete.
Eager to see people’s reaction I strut myself to work. Immediately upon arrival the comments start. I must say the reactions were very conflicting, from the “OMG!! I Love your outfit” to the ” Ohh I didn’t recognize you… you look like a lady” uhhh… what’s that supposed to mean? That I usually look like a tramp?? I must confess, I kept dwelling all day about my preference for shorter skirts and how I might be giving out the wrong impression. Don’t get me wrong I was enjoying my swingy skirt, and my love for fashion has a lot to do with the fact that you can transform yourself with wardrobe change. But nothing makes me feel more empowered and like myself than high heels and a short skirt.
Throughout the day the acknowledgement for my outfit wasn’t taken for granted. But I was still concerned about those lady comments. Should I re-examine my wardrobe and go for more conservative pieces?? Until an unexpected reaction from my very conservative superior, “I’m loving the look but… you are young, I love you in your short skirts” It felt like a blessing! What a relief, I don’t need a wardrobe overhaul!
Then again once in a while… it’s so much fun to experiment with FASHION!!
